Simplify, reset & rebalance to conquer insulin resistance
Creating a holistic and comprehensive picture of not just your symptoms or disease manifestation, but of you as a whole person – in the physical, mental, emotional, social and environmental context is the very first step in the coaching process.
Completing recommended labs (included) is encouraged. The biomarkers provide a snapshot of your physiology, establishing a baseline of your cardiometabolic, gut, stress and inflammation profile. A critical step in creating your personalized coaching plan.
The first step in any health transformation is to avoid or minimize triggers and factors that further precipitate your symptoms. Reducing the intake of carbohydrates by rebalancing your plate and discovering tools to minimize sugar cravings often initiates the healing process.
If you’ve heard the phrase “it all begins in the gut”, you’ll know why this step in your cardiometabolic health transformation is critical. An imbalanced gut microbiome triggers inflammation and quickly offsets your hormone and blood sugar balance.
Many of us live in a perpetual state of flight-or-fright. Movement is an excellent way to trigger the parasympathetic nervous system and offers a plethora of options to find one that best fits your unique life situation and interests.
In our current day and age sleep is highly underrated. Sleep is the body’s natural process to pause the mind, repair all the wear-n-tear assaults from the day and restore the natural rhythm for a brand new day tomorrow.
Food is medicine – that’s always how it’s been but modern day conveniences have led us to deviate from this ancient wisdom. This is not a diet or meal plan. We work on cultivating mindful eating habits, creating a sustainable rhythm and selecting nutrients that optimize for cardiometabolic health.
Muscle is the organ of longevity. This is an exploding area of new science and latest evidence reveals its fascinating role in blunting the crude effects of age-related hormonal shifts and cellular senescence.
Stress triggers are unavoidable but cultivating a strong stress response allows you to regain equilibrium after exposure to a stressful event. Eastern philosophies and western science provide a treasure chest of tools to pause, become aware and find your center.
Are you ready to defeat insulin resistance and take back your health?
Three decades ago, in response to the growing chronic disease burden, a system was developed to take a systems-biology approach to prevent and manage chronic diseases utilizing a plethora of tools – nutrition, lifestyle, exercise, environment, emotional, cognitive and nutraceutical therapies. Let me try to explain this more simply. Suppose we sought to treat a plant with leaf blight causing discoloration on a few leaves. The conventional medicine approach would be to treat the symptoms, so we focus on treatments that replace the lost green pigment. On the other hand, a functional medicine approach would be to first understand why the leaves are losing color. We will first examine the soil quality, the watering frequency and maybe the health of the roots to deduce what might be causing the pigment loss. Evidence-based diagnostic tools evaluating the plant’s genetic and cellular machinery are employed as appropriate. The functional medicine treatment protocol will focus on supporting the plant to begin producing its pigment by healing the plant or correcting its environment. Functional medicine is a whole-person approach that acknowledges a person’s individuality and their environment.
Many of us are quite familiar with the terms business coaching and academic coaching, but what does a health coach do really? It’s a very fair question given that the field of health coaching is relatively new. Let’s say you went to see your primary care physician or a functional medicine practitioner with a mix of a few show-stopping and maybe a couple annoying symptoms. The physician ran a set of labs and arrived at a diagnosis. For simplicity’s sake, let’s assume they pulled out a map and pointed to where you are today. And then used a bright red marker and drew a circle around Mt. Everest, showing you where you need to travel to, to reverse or manage your chronic condition. You leave the office overwhelmed and unsure of how to make the journey to Mt. Everest and possibly doubting if you ever will.
Here’s where a wellness coach comes in. We breakdown the journey to Mt. Everest and build an itinerary that is customized for you. We identify destinations along the route that will ultimately get you to the summit and create checkpoints to periodically assess progress. We offer support through the journey and gently help you back when you detour or encounter setbacks. We’re your sherpa or guide assisting your journey to the summit prescribed by your physician, but YOU ARE THE CLIMBER..
Our coaching approach integrates both Ayurveda and Functional Medicine. The Ayurvedic assessment of body constitution offers perspective into foods that support the body and the ones that throw it off balance. Functional medicine offers a plethora of insight into anti-inflammatory foods and phytonutrients to shift the body towards healing. Yogic techniques of pranayama, breathwork and gentle movement destress the body and mind. Internalization techniques like visual imagery and journaling are incredibly powerful in building body awareness and gently propel the journey towards health.
While there are many tools and techniques that provide value, empathy is at the heart of everything we do. No two individuals are alike and what works for one rarely works the same way for another. Our approach is intentionally focussed on meeting you where you are.
You’re ready to create change
Working with me as your coach, I will help hold you accountable as you make progress towards your health goals. You’re tired of feeling stuck or not making the progress you want to see. You want to leave behind behaviors that don’t serve you well, but aren’t quite sure where to start.
You can make the time
Change might be a simple word, but it doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process, one that requires time, courage and grace, especially when we’ve been doing something a certain way for a long, long time. We are not aiming for perfect, but we are continuously striving for consistency. Small incremental changes build over time and grow into entirely new healthy habits.
You’re committed to the process
I adopt a strengths-based approach where we work to identify what you do naturally do really well. We focus on using your strengths to create change, build momentum and ultimately propel you in the direction you want to go. Having used this process on myself and other clients, I’ll be the first to tell you that it requires discipline and dedication to your personal goals. Reflect on your emotional readiness and intrinsic desire to realize your health vision. These are your goals and you are in the driver seat.
